Store-bought vegan tempeh jerky can hurt your wallet. Good thing it’s easy to DIY using ingredients you probably have on hand! Try it once and you’ll never take off for a hike or road trip again without a bag of this tasty, protein-rich snack.

Makes 4 servings

what you’ll need:

¼ cup soy sauce or tamari
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 package Tofurky® Organic Five-Grain Tempeh, halved then cut into ⅛” thick strips

how to make:

1. Preheat oven to 200℉ and line a baking sheet with parchment.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, lime juice, sugar, and onion powder until sugar is dissolved. Pour into a sealable bag, add tempeh, and gently combine to coat. Marinate at least 30 minutes.
3. Place tempeh on prepared baking sheet. Bake until dry to the touch but still slightly pliable, about 1 hour. Cool completely and store in an airtight container.
