Tofurky Road Trip!
On our end, we will track the number of Tofurky Tuesdays Care Packages sent out and show the potential energy saved. The positive environmental impact of individual actions will be illustrated by our Tofurkymobile.
We have calculated that the amount of green house gas emissions reduced by going meatless just one day a week is equal to the amount released when you drive a car that averages 20 mpg 16.5 miles. For each individual who registers for Tofurky Tuesdays, we will move our tricked out “Tofurkymobile” 16.5 miles on a virtual trip to nearly every state in the lower 48 states. View our progress...
Why eat meat-free once a week?
Reducing the amount of meat you eat daily has many positive personal and environmental results. Here’s how:
• If you reduce your meat consumption by only 20% (only 6 meatless days a month!) the energy saved will be equivalent to that saved when you switch from driving a sedan car to a hybrid vehicle.
• 18% of all greenhouse gas emissions are a direct result of meat production.
• It takes 16 pounds of grain and soy to produce one pound of beef and only eight ounces of soybeans are needed to make one pound of tempeh.
• We know that meat consumption is on the rise globally, especially among China’s 1.3 billion citizens who are changing from a plant-based diet to a more meat-centered diet.
But How?
Personal choice is the biggest asset we have in our attempt to change our planetary carbon footprint.
Choices can be major such as buying a new energy efficient car or less daunting like deciding what you choose to eat at each meal.
Reducing your meat intake by going “meatless” one day a week is not as daunting as you might think. Turtle Island Food’s signature Tofurky® and Tempeh products are just one way to approach “going meatless” and still eat satisfying meals. You can make a bean burrito for dinner, have a pasta salad with grilled veggies, or prepare an endless number of dishes using vegetables or soy-based meat alternatives. A simple way to start is to look at what you normally prepare and design a way to make that dish meat-free.
If you want to go meatless once a week, please sign up to receive a Tofurky Tuesdays Care Package.
* Complimentary magazines will be mailed to U.S. addresses only.
